Ride2Work Day Is Coming. Here’s Why It’s Worth a Go
Share
If you’ve ever thought about riding to work but haven’t quite made the leap, this is your chance. Ride2Work Day is happening Wednesday 15 October, and it’s a great excuse to try commuting by bike. Thousands of people across Australia will be taking part, from city centres to suburbs and regional towns.
You don’t need to be a hardcore cyclist. You just need a working bike, a helmet, and a bit of planning. Some local councils and workplaces will be putting on free breakfasts or tune-up stations, so check what’s happening in your area.
Why ride to work?
- You’ll feel more awake and less stressed when you arrive
- No traffic jams or packed trains
- It’s cheaper than driving or public transport
- You get your daily exercise without needing a gym
Tips if you’re new to it
- Check your tyres and brakes the night before
- Pack light and bring a change of clothes if needed
- Use lights even during the day so drivers can see you
- Plan your route ahead of time and stick to bike paths when you can
If you need gear, locks, lights, commuter bikes, Bicycle Centre has you covered. Drop into your local store or browse online. We’ll help you get set up so your first ride is a good one.
Whether you’re riding five minutes or fifteen kilometres, Ride2Work Day is a good reminder that the trip to work doesn’t have to be a chore. Give it a go. You might not want to go back.
